The Coolest Kids Costumes

Author: Andy West

Kids costumes get ever cooler and so much more advanced as time passes by. Long gone are the days of the lonely hobo with his eye-liner five o'clock shadow, carrying his worldly possessions in a kerchief on the end of a stick. These days, kids costumes can be more and more creative and glamorous. While there are still plenty of options for do-it-yourself kids costumes, there are tons of great premade items available, too. So, what are the coolest kids costumes? Check out these ideas.

Disney kids costumes: It used to be that being a princess for Halloween meant putting on one of Mommy's fancy dresses and buying a tiara. When today's girl says she wants to be a princess, the response is likely to be "which one?" Of course there are tons of Disney princess costumes for sale. Your little princess can be Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Ariel, Aurora, Cinderella, or Snow White. Little boys might be more interested in dressing up as Aladdin (or even the genie), Peter Pan, Pinocchio, or Prince Charming. Don't forget about favorite Pixar characters like Shrek, Fiona, and the crew from Monsters Inc.

Star Wars kids costumes: Sure there are a ton of Disney princesses, but there's only one Princess Leia. From the white gown to the cinnamon bun hair, Princess Leia is one lady who never goes out of fashion. Of course, Queen Amidala offers a ton of costume options of her own. For your good little boys, there are Obi-Won Kenobi and Luke Skywalker costumes. If your kiddo has a bit more of a "dark side," though, consider dressing him up as Darth Vader or even a Storm Trooper. Don't forget the cute factor that comes from dressing the littlest ones up as Yoda or R2-D2, either.

Television character kids costumes: There are few parents of "tweens" who don't have some familiarity with Hannah Montana. The young ladies just love this singing, acting diva with the ever-changing hair. For a little more seventies' flair, how about dressing her up as Daphne from Scooby Doo? Of course, you don't want to forget the boys who would be adorable as either Fred or Shaggy. Can't you just picture that scraggly little goatee? Of course, there's always the Sesame Street influence to consider. What little one doesn't act just a bit like Cookie Monster on Halloween, anyway? Why not dress him or her up to match the insanity that comes from that much sugar in one night?

Animal kids costumes: The kids costumes available today are incredibly detailed, and this really shows in some of the animal-inspired costumes. Pairing a yellow tulle skirt with a striped shirt and a pair of wings makes an adorable baby bee. Swap out the yellow and stripes for red and dots, and now you've got the cutest little lady bug around. Imaginary animals are a whole lot of fun, too. Your kiddos can transform into the Cat in the Hat, Winnie the Pooh, and even a Care Bear. Some of the best animal costumes, though, are those that are completely unexpected. Keep your trick-or-treater warm by dressing him up as a penguin or swaddle your infant in a wiggle-worm costume.

Scary kids costumes: If ghosts and ghouls are more your taste in kids costumes, then you won't be disappointed in the variety that is out there today. Your little guy can become a pretty realistic vampire, complete with cape and fangs. Your sweet little girl might step out of her ordinary good girl role to portray a wicked witch for the day. Zombies, skeletons, and werewolves all fit nicely into this category. There is no shortage of options for adding a spooky touch to kids costumes this Halloween.

Pretty Resume Trumps Ugly Resume - Resume Design Tips

Author: David Alan Carter

All other things being equal, pretty trumps ugly. Tough truth, but I didn't make the rules. So when it comes to your resume, attractive certainly can't hurt. And while they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, most pros would agree there are some common themes that make for a pretty resume.

______

Is your resume a beast? Is it howling at the moon and dragging it's knuckles on the ground? More importantly, is it not doing its job? The job of any resume, of course, is generating interview invitations. If you're isn't doing that, it could be the fault of the writing, or it could be the design. Sometimes a single change or two in design can make a huge difference in both the readability of a resume, and the impression it makes on the reader. Here are 5 tips to ensure your resume is designed to be a pleasure to read.

The Making of a Pretty Resume - 5 Resume Design Tips

1 - Steer clear of unusual fonts and over-the-top graphics. You can incorporate two different fonts on your resume for visual appeal, but no more than two. And it's probably best to stick with the old standbys like New Times Roman (if you prefer lettering with a serif) or Arial, Helvetica or Verdana if you're looking for a clean, more modern look (sans serif). And about that watermark of Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader locking lightsabers that adorns your personal stationery? Let's keep it there, and not on your resume.

2 - Maintain a reasonable length. As a rule of thumb, the job seeker at grad-level to 5 years experience is best served by a 1-page resume. Mid-career professionals and executives likely have the work history to justify a 2-page resume.

3 - Employ indented text, bullet points, italics and bold headings to add interest and readability to the layout. And by the way, white space is your friend. Too many writers try to pack too much onto a page, resulting in a resume with gianormous blocks of text that are tough to read. Weed out what's not absolutely necessary, and use bulleted lists to organize your qualifications and accomplishments.

4 - Use a functional format only as a last resort. Many hiring managers have a predisposition against the functional resume because too many candidates over the years have used the format to try to hide some aspect of their background

Large fish tanks, elaborate sets and choreography: The most expensive music videos pt. 1

Author: Kasan Groupe

It is hard to imagine a time when a record label would give an artist anything close to seven million dollars to make a music video. Today, artists often have to find the cash or fund the music videos themselves if they want to make one. Bands like OK Go have made videos for next to nothing, coming up with their own choreography and filming the video themselves which have gone on to become music sensations. With MTV and VHI playing less and less actual music videos, artists have to find cheaper ways to fund their videos since they are largely going to be downloaded and watched free of charge on channels like dailymotion and youtube. With that history lesson, here is a selection of some of the most expensive music videos every made, full of large fish tanks, elaborate sets and choreography, all of them above the three million dollar mark.

Michael Jackson & Janet Jackson – Scream

At seven million dollars, the video for MJ and Janet’s “Scream” is still the most expensive music ever made even when adjusted for inflation. What made “Scream” so expensive was the elaborate sets and choreography involved, with three different sets uniquely designed for the video, in which one of the directors described as a “military operation.” The most famous scene involves Micahel Jackson in a science fiction space capsule. The video would go on to influence other award winning videos like TLC’s “No Scrubs” and “Shawty Get Loose” by Lil Mama and Chris Brown.

Madonna – Die Another Day

The theme song to the James Bond film of the same name, Madonna joined the ranks of artists such as Nancy Sinatra, Paul McCartney and Tina Turner to contribute original theme songs to the Bond film franchise. Madonna’s song was one of the most successful Bond theme’s since Duran Duran’s “A View to a Kill” and was include on her album “American Life.” The music video featured elaborate scenes and references to famous Bond scenes and villains, and even the Luke Skywalker lightsaber battle with Darth Vader making it the second most expensive video ever made.

History of the Lego Company

Author: Bronnie Vaughn

Lego is the toy building set of choice for children, and the young at heart, worldwide. Lego is a company in Denmark known for its colourful plastic bricks that interlock to build everything from buildings to space ships. To accompany the building bricks, other accessories are sometimes included, such as gears, wheels, and the ever-popular minifigures with interchangeable heads, hands, legs and torso.  Everything made using Lego bricks can easily be taken apart and built again and again. Ever since they first debuted in 1940, the Lego Company has grown to become so massive that it now has several theme parks and video games to just name a couple.

With beginnings vastly different from those of other toys, Legos have always been unique. The original concept was born by Ole Kirk Christiansen, a Danish carpenter, who made houses and furniture. It can be said that those were the very inspirations for Lego bricks.

Because of the Great Depression, Christiansen was forced to create miniature products that acted as design aids. Those were the very first Lego bricks that eventually inspired him to go into toy making. He manufactured other toys first, such as wooden piggy banks and yoyos. Eventually, he named his company Lego, an amalgamation of the Danish words leg and godt that meant ‘play well’. When plastic became widely used, He was inspired by the company Kiddicraft to make his own interlocking bricks. He then began building Legos and selling his new products, which would eventually take the world by storm.

The toys building sets have become a worldwide phenomenon. Almost everyone today, including adults, have played with Legos at least once in their lives. Lego building competitions are held annually. There are also many Lego theme parks that showcase life-sized Lego structures. A reason as to why Lego has so much appeal is that practically anything can be made from them, as shown in theme parks that have patented Lego versions of St. Paul’s Cathedral and the Chrysler building, two very big, well known structures. The very first big Lego creation was a train station, and the progress from big to giant can be clearly seen today.

In order to further boost the profitability of their product, the company has signed agreements with several popular franchises. The very first franchise to be joined was Star Wars. To this day it is Lego’s most well known and most profitable partner. Lego Star Wars has huge appeal, because fans love building their own Star Wars vehicles and re-enacting scenes using characters such as Star Wars Luke Skywalker and Star Wars Darth Vader. You are even able to include their own Jedi wars and build such famous pieces as the Star Wars destroyer space ship using Lego building bricks.

The popularity of these delightful and creative toy sets hasn’t waned in any way. Fans continue to purchase them for themselves and as enjoyable and creative gifts for the children in their life. Watch your child’s eyes light up when they see their first very own Lego building set!

Looking For Christmas and Halloween party Ideas?

Author: Anirban Bhattacharya

A costume party is a fun way to put kids and adults in the right spirit for the holiday season. If you are not holding a costume party yourself, you might have been invited to one. Though costume parties are fun, it is something of a challenge to innovate new Christmas costumes. Kids are happy enough with pretty angel and Father Christmas costumes; jaded adults may need something more to perk them up and get them enthused about the party.

Easy Costume Ideas

If you plan to put together Christmas costumes for you and your family, you need to get hold of the right supplies. Sometimes, mixing and matching clothes and accessories can help you get the right look. For example, a white gown with a silver belt can make you look as elegant or chic an angel as any. If you cannot find accessories like a harp or wings, there are costume stores to help you. If you plan to dress your kids in Christmas costumes, be sure to involve them in the dress designing process - you will be amazed at the ideas they can come up with, and of course, it will be a fun activity for the entire family.

Buy Them Online

If you don’t have the time, resources, or skills to put together your own costume, the internet is where you turn to for help. The Santa suit is of course, de rigueur, as are the angels. You can dress as one of the assistants from Lapland - either the elves or Eskimos. There are also costumes available for women who want to dress as Mrs. Kris Cringle. Other popular Christmas figures are the Three Wise Men, the Shepherd, Mary, Scrooge and his three ghosts, and the reindeer as well.

Halloween Costumes

Apart from the holiday season, costume ideas are in great demand around Halloween. Halloween is the time you can really let your hair down and enjoy being someone you idealized as a kid or fantasized about emulating as a teen. Halloween party costumes can be flamboyant, saucy, sober, funny, feminine, macho, or scary, depending on what your preferences are. Dress well and have fun!

Darth Vader Costumes - A Classic Halloween Disguise

Author: Eric LeRiche

There are lots of people who are nuts about Star Wars. Of course , just look at what number of people would line up for days or even weeks before each new flick was released. And if you saw one of the pictures on 1st night, you probably saw some Stormtrooper suits and Darth Vader costumes in the gang. If you've ever found yourself dressed up in a Darth Vader Costume, you are probably a little bit of a fanatic about the Star Wars films. Of course , the costume is not an easy one to put together, and it's actually hard to slip in and out of.
Ever since I used to be a kid, I have wanted a genuine, hi-tech Darth Vader suit. I remember seeing one in a movie mementos store back in the 80's, and my young imagination started picturing me in a heated lightsaber duel with some Jedi Knight.

I have never been one for those camp conventions where everyone argues the small details about Star Wars that George Lucas most likely never thought of himself so Halloween is the single time I'd get away with dressing as the Sith Lord.

If you are thinking of a Darth Vader costume for Halloween this year, it's time to get on the ball. If you are thinking about ordering online, the best costume websites will ship right up until two days before Halloween but by then you may be stuck as an Ewok - the cool characters could be sold out.

The average superstore or drug store costume just doesn't cut it if you'd like to truly get into the part.

It's a full body suit and mask so nobody even wants to understand who's under there if you do not need them to. Just be prepared for a large amount of heavy breathing and'Luke, I am your father' quotes whule wearing your amazing Darth Vader Costume!
